Cheri is a licensed professional counselor through the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling with a Master’s Degree in Counseling from The University of Montevallo. She also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education from Bowling Green State University and a Doctorate in Administration from the University of Alabama.
Cheri has a 25-year background in education where she worked as a teacher, counselor, and administrator. She has worked at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels but spent the majority of her career working in a college setting. Most recently, Cheri was the Clinical Director of an outpatient treatment center where she conducted groups and provided individual counseling for those who suffer from issues related to substance abuse. She has had experience in working with diverse individuals of all ages on a wide variety of concerns including addiction, depression, anxiety, career issues, anger management, self-esteem, chronic pain, and other life challenges. Her style is open, honest, direct, and interactive. Her approach combines cognitive-behavioral, reality, and solution focused along with other modalities based on client needs. Cheri believes in setting collaborative goals with clients to help them with their areas of need, while also empowering them to use their strengths to overcome difficulties.
